Manuel Perez

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Manuel Perez, known as Manny, decided to continue his education after undergoing back surgery that required nearly aManuel Perez year of recuperation. The father of two, he realized his options in the workforce were now limited because of his injury, and going to college was an obvious choice to make. But having been out of school for almost a decade, he knew it would be challenging. His girlfriend, a Capital student, had always described the wonderful instructors, flexibility of online classes, and support she received while learning English. This made the choice to attend CCC easy.

Manny’s most notable experience at Capital was the opportunity to participate in CCAP (Capital’s Career Advancement Program).  Exclusive to Capital, this program provides selected students with paid internships, financial support towards their associates degree, mentoring from business professionals and career exploration opportunities in the insurance and financial services field.

“The biggest challenge graduating students face is lack of experience in their area of study,” said Manny. “This internship provides hands on work experience in a corporate environment, as well as the academic support you need to succeed.”

Manny’s internship was with United HealthCare (UHC), and he appreciated that Capital’s location in the heart of the city made it convenient to participate. The prime location, he said, also enriched his learning experience at CCC, as he visited – for classes and on his own – the Wadsworth Atheneum, the Old State House and Hartford Stage, among other area cultural institutions.

After graduating from Capital in 2016 with a degree in Management, Manny transferred to CCSU and will graduate in May 2018. When he graduates, a job as a financial analyst will be waiting for him at UHC. Manny is the first UHC intern from CCC who has been offered a full-time position.
