Woman’s Suffrage and More: Edna Purtell and Mary Townsend Seymour by Dr. Tracey Wilson
October 21 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
The Connecticut woman’s suffrage movement had a profound impact on the women who participated, even though they were not capable of moving those who wanted to keep the vote just for men. The suffrage movement in Connecticut was an incubator for organizing, education, and building leaders. It is a story of cross class alliances, women lobbying for multiple issues, and women divided on an issue that today we might think would unite them. The story is one that teaches us about Hartford’s history, the women’s movement, the Progressive Era, and women’s issues in the early 20th century.
