THE U.S. CIVIL WAR

HIS* 226

It can truly be said that one cannot understand modern America without first
understanding the American Civil War. A seminal moment in American history, the
war would have profound implications for society, culture, politics, race relations
and the economy. This course is designed to give students a better understanding of
the causes and the political, military, and cultural history of the American Civil War,
as well as its lasting consequences. Prerequisite: ENG 043.
