Language acquisition and age-level characteristics related to speech and language are discussed. Students explore the children's literature, early childhood language arts curriculum, including speaking, listening, pre-writing and pre-reading skills and methods and techniques that enhance speech and language development. This course may require visits, observation and participation in an early childhood education setting. Students complete a minimum of 10 hours of field experience and observation in a school, licensed child development/care center, or a field placement approved by the program coordinator and/or the course instructor.
