CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN POLICING

Emphasis on special issues facing law enforcement personnel in today’s changing
society. Examines the police function, organization and administration; the
demand for police services; the relationship of police to their environment; police
tactics; and the outcome for which police strive. Focus on police accountability
and their effectiveness to adapt to these issues. Topics will include: police stress,
ethics, crisis intervention teams response when dealing with emotionally
disturbed people, terrorism threat response and community-based policing.
Prerequisite: CJS* 120.
