An in-depth look at the child, the family, and the relationship between the school and the family. An understanding of the young child and age appropriate guidance for her or him will be examined. An understanding of how to effectively communicate with families will be explored. Students will attempt to identify ways a school can develop a working relationship with today’s families. This course may require visits, observation and participation in an early childhood education setting. Students complete a minimum of 10 hours of field experience/observation in a school, a field placement approved by the program coordinator and/or the course instructor, or licensed child development/care center. Formerly listed as EDUC 229. This course may be used as an elective. Prerequisite: ECE* 101.
