Healthcare Customer Support Specialist

Learn how to become a customer service specialist with an emphasis on the healthcare industry. Customer Healthcare Specialists can work in a variety of positions within the customer service field, both in healthcare and non-healthcare industries.

You will gain the skills necessary to excel as a customer service specialist. Topics include: Professionalism/Customer Service, Communication Skills, Basic Math, Fundamentals of the Affordable Care Act, Fundamentals of Health Insurance, Medical Terminology, Medicaid Benefits, Time Management, Basic Computer skills, Cultural Competency and more. A customer service certification will be offered during the class.

This certificate program has been enhanced to provide you with better preparation for the world of work and to make a successful transition from training to career. As part of your certificate, you will learn workplace and career planning skills. Topics include: Problem solving, decision making, time management, professional behavior in the workplace, job search strategies, interviewing skills, and financial literacy. Students will also learn cover letter and resume writing tips.

NOTE: Background checks are required for most allied health positions. Students with felony convictions may have difficulty obtaining employment in these fields. 

PREREQUISITES

Pass assessment tests for reading and math. Call our information center at (860) 906-5130 to schedule testing. Individuals with college experience may request the assessment tests be waived.
