The apprenticeship program at Capital Community College is a proven model that creates strong college and employer partnerships that better prepare students for the workforce, and meet business’ growing need for a reliable source of highly skilled workers.

What is an Apprenticeship

An apprenticeship is a paid training program of earning while learning. This on-the-job training, combined with classroom instruction, ensures a well-qualified, job-ready employee. In addition to the related occupation instruction, apprentices learn critical life skills such as time management, communication, team building, problem solving, and leadership. These skills help them to be successful in the workforce. Apprenticeship programs enable apprentices to immediately apply what they learn in the classroom to the job. This increases retention, engagement, and work performance. A Registered Apprenticeship program can help employers develop a world-class workforce, while enhancing productivity and profitability.

Insurance Claims Operations


Capital Community College in partnership with The Hartford, United States Department of Labor, and the Connecticut Department of Labor designed and implemented an Insurance Claims Operations Registered Apprenticeship Program.  Apprentices participate in insurance related instruction, paid on-the-job training, mentoring, and academic coaching.  Upon successful completion of the one-year program, apprentices will earn their associate degrees, a non-credit certificate in Insurance Claims Operations, 12 college credits for the related insurance instruction, the Connecticut Adjuster’s license, and the Connecticut Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship certificate.  In collaboration with The Hartford, Capital Community College opened Connecticut’s first Insurance Claims Operations simulated classroom to support the apprenticeship program.

Food Service & Hospitality Management


The Food Service & Hospitality Management Registered Apprenticeship Program is a one-year training program that prepares individuals for employment in the food service and hospitality industry.  Apprentices receive classroom instruction on basic food service and hospitality foundations that are integrated with practical lab activities in a commercial food service operation.  The apprentices will develop and practice the skills required in the culinary profession while acquiring work experience. Upon successful completion of the Food Service & Hospitality Management Registered Apprenticeship Program, an apprentice will be awarded a non-credit Food Service & Hospitality Management certificate of completion from Capital Community College, 6 college credits, the SERV Safe Food Handler certification, and the Connecticut Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Certificate.
