Advanced Placement Credit and Placement Policy

It is the Policy of the Connecticut Board of Regents for Higher Education that students admitted to a CSCU institution who score a 3 or higher on a specific AP exam shall uniformly receive at least three college credits for the equivalent introductory college course, if offered, at that institution. In some instances, the introductory is a tandem of courses for which an appropriate number of course credits are to be awarded. Such students shall be eligible for placement in a sequential course.

The faculty of the respective academic division or department shall determine the awarding of course credits and course placements for scores of 3, 4, or 5 for other courses offered by the institution. This discretionary decision by the faculty shall be reviewed periodically in consideration of the achievement levels of the program’s students with applicable AP credits and/or placements.
