Administrative Medical Assistant with Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Course approved for SNAP and WIOA scholarships Administrative Medical Assistants play an important role in the doctor’s office. They schedule appointments, input new patient information, update and file patient records. Learn to perform administrative tasks in a medical office or facility.

This course is designed to prepare students for administrative duties in a medical setting utilizing specific knowledge of medical terminology and hospital, clinic, or laboratory procedures. Students will learn the skills necessary to perform the major functions of a medical office including scheduling appointments, compiling, and recording medical charts, reports, HIPPA, insurance, medical coding and billing, reimbursements, and correspondence.

This course includes the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Textbooks are included in the tuition.

Asplundh Utility Arborist Trainee Program

The Asplundh Utility Arborist Trainee Program provides students with the basic understanding of the skills needed to start in this exciting career. The program will provide an overview of available careers and certifications that are part of the Utility Line Clearance Industry. We will discuss the basic safety and training techniques in tree trimming and tree felling. The student will gain an understanding of temporary traffic control, electrical basics, job briefings, proper lifting techniques, and the importance of effective communication on the work site.

Students will take the OSHA 10-HR Certification – Construction; AHA Heartsaver First Aid and CPR AED certifications; ATTSA Flagger Certification Training; and the CT DEEP Pesticide Commercial Junior Operator Certification.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be ready for entry level employment as a Utility Arborist Trainee at Asplundh Tree Experts, LLC.

Prerequisites: 17+ years of age (The applicant must be 18 at the time of hire.) High School Diploma/GED. Valid driver’s license, or the ability to obtain one before employment. Offer is contingent upon passing a drug test and background check screening.

CNA Refresher

Need to brush up on your CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) skills? Has your certification lapsed? Do you need to retake the CNA competency examination? Our refresher course is designed to help you get up to speed on the basics. Our instructors are RNs who review principles of care, lab skills and test taking strategies. Textbook is included in the course cost.

Community Health Worker with Mental Health First Aid Certification

Community Health Workers are becoming an essential part of the healthcare system. They help

community members gain access to care, increase their knowledge, help prevent disease and

improve health outcomes. In this course, you’ll learn about the role of the Community Health

Worker, how to provide culturally appropriate health education and outreach to advocate for your clients, motivational interviewing skills, self-awareness, and more. The course will also focus on job readiness and communication for use in health teams and future employment.

Prerequisite: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Math skills: includes solving word problems with basic algebra, ratios, decimals and metric measurements. Basic computer skills. Background checks are required for most allied health positions. Students with a record may have difficulty finding employment in the healthcare industry.

EKG Technician with Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

Course approved for SNAP scholarship

This 40-hour EKG Technician program prepares students with EKG skills, practice with equipment and perform hands-on labs, including introduction to the function and proper use of the EKG machine, the normal anatomy of the chest wall for proper lead placement, 12-lead placement, and other clinical practices. Students will also learn to analyze printed readings of EKG tests, measuring various “cardiac intervals and complexes” and determining normal vs. abnormal EKG. This course does not provide students with employment as an EKG Technician. However, this course prepares students with the skills and knowledge to perform EKGs in a healthcare setting.

This program is recommended to pair with Certified Nurse Aide or Phlebotomy Technician. Textbook, and the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification are included in the costs. Students will also receive one voucher for the National Healtcareer Association (NHA) Certified EKG Technician (CET) examination.

Eversource Lineworker Program

The utility industry is experiencing tremendous growth in meeting and serving the energy demands of homeowners, businesses and municipalities across CT. There is a high demand for skilled resources to construct, maintain and service the electric infrastructure. Eversource

Energy is partnering with Capital Community College and IBEW Locals 420 and 457 to deliver a Lineworker Certificate Program, which has been specifically designed to help develop the future workforce needed in this exciting field.

Students will develop the fundamental skills required to effectively install and maintain the Electric Distribution system, including the safe and effective use of common tools and equipment. Students will also build a strong working knowledge of accepted industry practices. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be ready for entry level employment as a Line Helper apprentice.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years old. High School Diploma/GED (a college transcript can be used in lieu of the diploma). Driver’s license or the ability to obtain one. Students will be expected to get a CDL license if hired into a Line Helper position with Eversource. Ability to work at heights in nearly all-weather conditions. Must pass testing required for the program, background check and drug screen. Students must have a computer/laptop and access to the Internet.

IT Support Certificate (Beginner)

The IT Support Certificate is designed to give learners the skills they need for an entry-level IT role. The certificate course teaches skills including how to build a computer and install an operating system, system administration and security, networking, and troubleshooting. This certificate is composed five classes that work in progression from beginner level to advanced level. Participants that take this certificate will also earn five individual industry recognized certifications in addition to the overall IT Support Certificate.

One exam voucher for the CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, AWS Cloud Foundations, and two exam vouchers for MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Outlook included in the tuition.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Students will learn how to use the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Students will achieve an intermediate level of understanding on all five applications. Students will be tested on each application to ensure their understanding of each application.
  • The A+ certification validates understanding of the most common hardware and software.
  • The general skills and knowledge required to support complex IT infrastructures.
  • Knowledge and skills needed to confidently design, configure, manage, and troubleshoot any wired and wireless network configuration.

Information Security Certificate (Intermediate)

A security certificate is used to provide the security level of a website to general visitors, Internet service providers (ISPs) and Web servers. A security certificate is also known as a digital certificate and as a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificate. These classes are offered in a progression from beginner to advanced level which will also enable participants to earn five individual industry recognized certifications in addition to the overall Information Security Certificate.

The following courses include one exam voucher in the tuition: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Security+, CompTIA Network+, and CISSP or Associate of (ISC)² CISSP, depending on experience.

Per ISC²: A candidate who doesn’t yet have the required experience to become a CISSP may become an Associate of (ISC)² after successfully passing the CISSP exam. The Associate of (ISC)² will then have six years to earn the experience needed for CISSP certification.

The Intro to Manufacturing program provides students with the basic skills necessary to begin a career in manufacturing. Students receive hands-on instruction with CNC and manual machines, shop math, metrology, and blueprint reading. Graduates earn an OSHA 10 Certification, Six Sigma White Belt Certification, and an Intro to Manufacturing Certificate. Employment assistance is provided for qualified students who complete the program.

Prerequisite: Math and manufacturing aptitude testing.

Nurse Aide Certification (CNA) with Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification

This course is intended for adults who are interested in entering the healthcare field. The program prepares students for employment in both public and private agencies. Students will learn how to care for people who need help in caring for themselves. Classroom lecture and lab is combined with clinical training at a local skilled nursing facility. Upon completion of the course participants will be able to perform basic nursing skills and recognize areas of safety for both patient and self. This course prepares students for the State of Connecticut Competency Exam. Students will become eligible for the Connecticut State Nurse Aide Registry.

Course topics include, but are not limited to: Basic nursing and personal care to patients. Helping patients maintain or regain everyday tasks including eating, bathing, dressing, and toileting. Communicating with patients and providing physical (includes heavy lifting) and emotional support to them Making patient observations and reporting them

Participating in care planning.

The State competency testing is included at the end of the course. Textbooks are included in the tuition. Students will also take the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. The following required items are not included in tuition: uniform, travel expense to clinical site, physical exam, and CT Nurse Registry application fee.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) with Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) Certificate program is an exciting opportunity for Certified Nurse Aides to advance their skills, earn a better salary, and have more job options in a

changing employment market. PCTs are valued members of many healthcare teams. They work in hospitals, rehabilitation settings, physician offices, clinics, and long-term care facilities. Upon completion of this program, students are eligible to sit for the National Health Career Association Certified Patient Care Technician and the Certified EKG Technician (CET) Exams.

The Personal Care Aide program is a program that prepares individuals with entry level skills and knowledge to perform Personal Care Aide (PCA) duties. PCA’s work in a home care environment and dedicate themselves to assisting individuals with daily activities such as using the bathroom, preparing, or eating meals, executing hygiene, and grooming habits, taking medication, bathing, and completing housework or other chores.

Upon completion of the program, students will earn the following industry recognized credentials/certificates: Personal Care Assistant Certificate, Dementia Care Certificate, American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid, CPR AED, Essential Job Skills, and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Certification

Pharmacy Technician

A Pharmacy Technician supports pharmacological services by distributing, stocking, and assembling medication. Pharmacy Technicians work under the supervision of a registered pharmacist in hospitals, clinics, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, retail pharmacies, mail-order pharmacies, long-term care facilities, pharmacy benefit managers, or large industrial complexes. This comprehensive course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s (PTCB) exam.

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Program includes a graded final exam to help prepare students for the PTCB exam. The instructor will provide details in class. One voucher for the PTCB exam is included in the cost as well as the textbook. This national certification program enables pharmacy technicians to work more effectively with pharmacists to offer safe and effective patient care and service. Students who complete this program successfully will be prepared to take the national certification.

Prerequisite: High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Course is held online. Basic computer skills: including navigating Windows, writing and sending an email, searching the internet. Safety & Security Guard with CPR

This is not your average Security Guard card course. This program will provide the Connecticut State mandated security officer certification course and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification. The additional CPR certification is a great addition to your resume and is often required by security employers.

Certified instructors will discuss basic first aid, CPR, AED, search and seizure, use of force, basic

criminal justice, and public safety issues. Students who successfully complete the required exam will be eligible for application for Connecticut State Guard Identification Card. Tuition includes the textbooks, application fee, fingerprints, photos, and background checks.

Prerequisite: 18 years of age or older. HS diploma or GED equivalent. Basic English: includes oral, written and reading communication skills. Applicants who have been convicted of a felony or sexual offense are not eligible for the Security Officer licensing.

Social Services Assistant

Social Services Assistants help social workers and healthcare workers provide services to individuals in their care. In this entry-level career-training certificate, you will learn how to evaluate client needs, assist clients with obtaining services including welfare, Medicaid and food stamps, and techniques for providing person-centered support. Techniques for organizing and facilitating group activities and providing daily living skills to prepare individuals living in halfway and supportive housing will be discussed. Textbooks are included in the tuition.

Mental Health First Aid Certification by the National Council for Behavioral Health is included in this certificate.

Prerequisite: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent. Basic English: includes oral, written and reading communication skills.
